Application Method
LOG GUARD Interior Clear Coat can be easily applied by brush, airless sprayer or pump style garden sprayer. If spray application is used, back brushing is mandatory.  If a color coat is desired you may apply a coat of UV GUARD Interior/Exterior Wood Finish before the LOG GUARD Interior Clear Coat. For best results wait 24 hours before applying your first coat of LOG GUARD Interior Clear Coat. Lightly sand between coats of LOG GUARD Interior Clear Coat with fine sandpaper. Make sure that all dust is removed from the wood surface prior to application of LOG GUARD Interior Clear Coat and between subsequent coats. Do not use steel wool. It may cause rust stains. It takes 2-3 coats of LOG GUARD Interior Clear Coat for a smooth finish. Do not use LOG GUARD Interior Clear Coat over deteriorated finishes. They must be removed and wood be thoroughly cleaned and sanded.

Drying Time
LOG GUARD Interior Clear Coat will be dry to the touch in 30 minutes to 1 hour and can be lightly sanded in 4 hours between coats depending on temperature and relative humidity.

Clean Up
Clean up immediately with soap and water. Dried brushes will require cleaning with lacquer thinner. Spray equipment should be cleaned immediately per the equipment manufacturer’s recommendations for latex finishes. Dispose of excess materials and LOG GUARD Interior Clear Coat by following all local, state and federal environmental disposal regulations.

Surface Condition
Log Guard Interior Clear Coat can be applied over interior surfaces that were originally coated with UV Guard Exterior/Interior Wood Finish or UV Guard II Exterior Wood Finish.

Surface Preparation
New Construction
On new construction, logs or other wood surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned by either sanding or using a cup brush. Thoroughly remove all dust from the wood surface by either vacuuming and/or using a damp cloth.

Maintenance/Restoration
On previously coated surfaces, the wood surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned prior to the application of LOG GUARD Interior Clear Coat. This can be accomplished by sanding or using a cup brush. Thoroughly remove all dust from the wood surface prior to application of LOG GUARD Interior Clear Coat.

Mill Glaze
Mill glaze, sometimes called planers glaze, which can be identified by a shiny appearance and/or cutter marks on the wood surface, is the cause of coating failure due to the lack of penetration of Log Guard Interior Clear Coat through the compressed/glazed surface fiber. All mill glaze must be removed by lightly sanding the affected surface prior to application of the Log Guard Interior Clear Coat. To provide added protection to logs and/or other wood surfaces, caulk all cracks and checks with UV GUARD® Premium Caulk after the initial application of LOG GUARD Interior Clear Coat.
